San Diego ATs kick off NATM

San Diego Athletic Trainers kicked off National Athletic Training Month with Advocates for Injured Athletes’ inaugural event “Relay The Message.”  It was a walk/jogathon to spread awareness of the profession of athletic training as well as a fundraiser for their Athletes Saving Athletes program (ASA).  ASA teaches middle school and high school student athletes CPR and signs and symptoms of concussions and heat illnesses.  The event had a great turnout…

On Monday, February 27th, NATA President Jim Thornton joined members of the California Athletic Trainers Association for their Annual Symposium & Hit the Hill Day. SDSU Future Athletic Trainers’ Society Host Red Cross Blood Drive

San Diego State University Future Athletic Trainers’ Society (FATS) hosted a Red Cross Blood Drive on the SDSU campus on February 27, 2014 from 10am-4pm. Their mission was to gather as many people as possible to donate, as well as donate ourselves. The exact number of donors was unknown, but the Red Cross staff indicated that towards the end of the event they ran out of places to store the blood bags. They…

CA Introduces AB1890 – Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act

California Introduces AB 1890, the “Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act.” On February 19, 2014, the California Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA) with California Assembly member Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park), introduced AB 1890, otherwise known as the “Athletic Trainers Practice Act.” The bill would regulate athletic trainers and prohibit any person without the proper credentials from engaging in the practice of athletic training. SDSU Future Athletic Trainers’ Society Assist Coronado 10K

On February 15th, 2014, San Diego State University Future Athletic Trainers’ Society (FATS) participated in the Coronado Valentine’s Day 10k run. There, we were assigned to work the medical tent along with assigned EMTs. Our main job there was to assist in first aid.
