Student Leadership Committee

Thank you for visiting the Far West Student Leadership Committee (FWSLC) page. Please review the following information regarding student leadership responsibilities.
The mission of the Far West Student Leadership Committee is to identify and address any and all issues and concerns pertinent to athletic training students in the collegiate and university setting.
The role the FWSLC plays in regards to District 8:

• Provides a collaborative atmosphere among athletic training students and fosters advocacy for the Athletic Training profession.
• Allows students to get involved with the planning and execution of the FWATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, including coordinating the Student Networking Breakfast and assisting with speaker selection for the student sessions
• Connects its committee members with fellow FWATA committees, such as EDAC and Public Relations, and creates networking and professional development opportunities

The FWSLC is typically comprised of several committee members. Most members will serve in a leadership capacity: the FWSLC Chair (President), Vice Chair, Secretary, and three subcommittee chairs. All positions (expect the Chair) are elected by the committee and are available to all members.

The three subcommittees are: Annual Meeting, Student Outreach, and Nominations.

• Annual Meeting: Responsible for planning the Student Networking Breakfast held at the FWATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia.
• Student Outreach: Responsible for managing FWSLC’s social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and disseminating pertinent district information to athletic training students and their programs around District 8.
• Operations: Responsible for promoting the FWSLC application to students, typically in collaboration with Student Outreach, reviewing the applications, and aiding the selection of incoming committee members.

General responsibilities of being a member of the FWSLC include:

• Be an active leader and participant in committee activities
• Respond to all committee related communication within 24-48 hours
• Attend and participate in every conference call. Be prepared to adjust your schedule (clinical, extracurricular, etc.) to participate in an online meeting once or twice a month
• Attend the FWATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia
• Represent the athletic training profession well through involvement in the community
