Hawaii ATs Conduct Weight Monitoring
On November 19th, athletic trainers from the Oahu Interscholastic Association collaborated for the weight-monitoring program of the 2013-2014 wrestling season. Hydration, measured by urine specific gravity, weight and body fat, measured by skin fold assessment, were collected for each athlete in order to determine the safest weight class to compete. Over 950 athletes from 21 schools were tested in order to avoid potentially harmful rapid weight reduction practices. Athletic trainers from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and outer islands also conducted testing for their respective leagues.
