Karin Carido Receives Excellence in Athletic Training Award

The Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association is pleased to announce the Winter Quarter 2020 winner of the Excellence in Athletic Training Award. This award is a unique and prestigious accolade, which recognizes a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) who displays an exceptional commitment to mentoring, professional development, and enhancing the quality of health care, as well as demonstrates the highest level of service, professionalism, and competence.

This quarter’s winner is Karin Carido MS, ATC. Carido is in her second academic year serving as an athletic trainer at the Hawaii Baptist Academy (HBA) located in Honolulu, HI. The HBA is a private, Christian college-preparatory school with more than 1,000 students enrolled in grades Kindergarten-12th Grade. Prior to HBA, Carido was the athletic trainer at Leilehua High School for six years. She also served as a graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, where she earned her Master of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.

In just shy of two years at Hawaii Baptist Academy, Carido has secured HBA’s second NATA Safe Sports School Award. Carido is an active leader in the Hawaii Athletic Trainers’ Association (HATA), currently holding the role of treasurer for HATA Foundation since 2016. Prior to that, she was the treasurer (2013-2016) and Public Relations co-chair (2012-2016) for HATA.

“What an honor to be recognized with excellence, and even more, being notified during National Athletic Training Month! I am so humbled to be able to work in such a supportive environment and grateful for the colleagues around me,” said Carido.

Fellow Athletic Trainer, Samuel Lee, who also works at Hawaii Baptist Academy, nominated Karin Carido. “[Karin’s] attention to detail and organizational skills have proven very helpful in keeping the HBA athletic training facility running smoothly and keeping athletes healthy… She is a true gem in our state and in our district” said Lee.

Please join us in congratulating Carido on this honor! Thank you for all you do for your school, state, and district!
