California State Governor Vetos AB1890
A Message from Mike West; President, California Athletic Trainers Association:
Despite the Governor’s veto of Title Protection of Athletic Training (AB 1890) in California, considerable momentum is being generated by the CATA’s Legislative Action Team (LAT). This group of 70 athletic trainers have tirelessly volunteered their time to support organized grassroots lobbying for regulation in CA. The team was created in 2012 as a way to get more people involved in the legislative process and assist the Governmental Affairs Committee with influencing the 120 legislators in Sacramento. They have been tasked with making a personal connection with the Assembly members and Senators in their home districts and educating them about athletic training and our regulatory bills. These LAT members have helped with elections, organized in-person meetings with legislators in their district offices, hosted legislators and their staff to their place of employment to show them first-hand how great ATs are, assisted with our many letter writing campaigns, and led meetings at Hit the Hill. We are unable to list them all by name but the CATA wants to reiterate that their importance cannot be overstated and that we thank them for their dedication to our efforts. We will persevere.
