USA Track & Field Honors Mt. SAC ATs

On January 14, 2014 (Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainers, Andy Paulin and Bill Ito, both received big news from USA Track and Field (USATF) this past month.  Paulin was named the 2013 USATF Dr. C. Harmon Award Winner, while Ito was named the Head Athletic Trainer of the 2014 USATF IAAF World Junior Championship Team.

The Dr. C. Harmon Brown Award is awarded annually to an individual whose work in the Sports Medicine and Science field has benefited the athletes and coaches of USATF on the national level.  The awards namesake is the late Dr. C. Harmon Brown, an endocrinologist at the University of California at San Francisco, who was a pioneer in the field of sports medicine with the IAAF and LPGA. The award was presented to Paulin at the 2013 USATF National Convention, which was held in Indianapolis, on December 7, 2013.  He recently served as the Head Athletic Trainer of the 2013 USATF IAAF World Youth Championship which was held in Moscow, Russia this past August.  A legendary figure in the Athletic Training World, Paulin inducted into the National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) Hall of Fame in 2011.  He has spent the past 30 years working with Mt. SAC Student-Athletes, serving on numerous USATF National Team Delegations and teaching thousands of future athletic trainers.

Bill Ito was named Head Athletic Trainer for the 2014 USATF IAAF World Junior Track and Field Team.  The IAAF World Junior Championships will be held from July 22nd through the 27th, in Eugene, Oregon.  Ito recently served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the 2013 USATF World Championship Team, which competed in Moscow, Russia, this past August.  In addition to serving the needs of the Mt. SAC Student/Athletes, Ito also serves as the Medical Director of the Mt. SAC Athletic Special Events (Mt. SAC Relays, Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, World Record Camps and Footlocker Cross Country Championships) as well as for the USATF Men’s and Women’s Pole Vault High Performance/Development.
